KCRQF 2019 – One More Day for Online Sign Up!

It’s getting closer!  Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival 2019 starts with classes and Preview Night on Wednesday, June 12 — but online signup for these ends tomorrow, June 4!

To help you out — here are some frequently asked questions:

1. If I take a class will this give me entrance into the Festival area?
NO – Classes & trunk show/lecture fees do not include entrance to the festival.  If you are taking a class or attending a trunk show/lecture and would also like to view over 400 quilts in the show and visit over 100 vendors, you must purchase a Festival Entrance pass – either in advance or at the door.

2. I have ordered my Festival Entrance Tickets on-line.  Where do I pick them up?
Festival tickets will be available at the Registration / Pick-up table in the Welcome area.

3. If I want to leave the Festival and come back in the same day, can I?
Yes! Our Festival Staff will be taking your tickets and stamping each person as they enter the Festival. If you should leave and want to come back, the staff will look for the “Stamp mark of the day” and you may reenter.

4. Can we purchase a 3-day pass at the door?
No. 3-day passes are no longer available once the Festival has begun.  These can be ordered online until June 4.

5. I have ordered merchandise online – T-shirts, Pins etc. Where do I pick these up at?
Festival merchandise will be available for pick up inside the Festival area at the KCRQF booth.

6. I ordered merchandise online but want to buy additional items? Will I be able to?
Yes – Additional merchandise will be available for purchase at the KCRQF Booth inside the Festival.

7. Can we bring our own cameras for Preview night to take photos at the Meet and Greet?
Yes, however we suggest that you ask permission to photo anyone. Photos in the Festival area are managed by the Vendor. Please ask their permission before taking a photo.

8. Will you be sending an email with the room assignment for the classes I have purchased?
Yes – Emails were sent to those purchasing any tickets, items or classes. If you have signed up for a class, please check to make sure you have supplies needed.

9. Do I bring my own sewing machine for classes?
No, you don’t need to. Classrooms will be set up with machines for you to use for machine technique classes. We will also have machine ambassadors in the room to assist you.

10. Are there hotels near the Overland Park Convention Center?
Yes, please see the information pages that will give you a link to those hotels that are associated with the Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival.

11. Will there be a bag check area?
Yes – We will have an area designated and marked “bag check” for your convenience.

12.  What about parking?
When the OPCC parking lot is full, attendants will direct you to the overflow parking, and a shuttle will be provided.  See full information on the website

KCRQF 2019 – Vendor Heart Creek Farm Creations

Joining Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival 2019 is returning vendor Heart Creek Farm Creations.

Heart Creek stocks everything you need to “have fun with punch needle”.   Rose says: “HEART CREEK FARM CREATIONS started 15 years ago out of my love of antique hooked rugs and Antique quilts. I discovered Miniature Punch Needle after I had to stop Rug Hooking because of bad Arthritis in my wrist. Upon discovering the art of Punch Needle, I could continue to “hook rugs” in miniature versions with much less equipment needed to carry around. Punch Needle is very portable, a fact I soon learned to love & a fact that made my husband, Tom, also very happy.”

Stop by their booth at the Festival to see the latest designs, or see what you’ll find on their website.

KCRQF 2019 – Guest Blog by Lori Lee Triplett

Welcome to the second stop of the “Hidden Treasures” blog tour. If you haven’t heard, the Triplett Sisters are pleased to have their fifth book available in pre-sale at the Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival. I’m also teaching at the Festival, so I hope you’ve registered for one of my workshops: Adire, Indigo Resist Dye Workshop, Silk Scarf Dyeing, or trunk show Out of Africa.  I’ll also be available to sign books on Preview Night or at our vendor booth. So, please be sure to stop by the booth and say “hi” to my sister Kay and me.

(Find out more about Lori’s classes on the KCRQF website Here.)

Yesterday, we discussed the first two chapters of the book Album and Wool Quilts. Today we’ll be learning about the third chapter, Birds of a Feather. There are very few bird quilts that Kay isn’t willing to add to the Poos Collection.  So, it was difficult to narrow down which bird quilts would be included. Sometimes we even snuck a quilt with birds into other sections of the book, that way we didn’t have to leave so many out.  These birds of a feather range from those on a coffin cover, to birds stealing three-dimensional cherries.  Okay, these are textiles that just have to be seen to be believed.  It is a good thing the book has lots of photos of all 100 items!

Starstruck is full of — wait for it, star quilts! Stars were one of the most popular patterns in the early 19th century. This book has 16 star quilts in it, each with different take on the star quilt.  Oh yes, we even snuck a couple of birds in this section too. Several of our new workshops which coordinated with the new book were inspired by a quilt in this section.

Don’t miss the remaining stops on the blog tour to learn more about the Triplett Sisters’ upcoming book, Hidden Treasures, Quilts from 1600 to 1860, Rarely Seen Pre-Civil War Textiles from the Poos Collection.
