I started my quilting passion in 2009. We had recently moved to a rural community; our youngest was a senior in high school and I needed a hobby. So, I signed up for a baking class at the local community college and a quilting course at the local quilt store. I dropped the baking course and went full steam ahead into quilting. Since 2009, I have taken countless courses in local shops and at national quilting shows. I take every opportunity I can to advance my skills. In July 2016, I launched the next chapter of my quilting adventure by starting my own quilting business – Cottage Grove Quilt Company. In July 2016, we completed the renovation on my in-home studio and welcomed the arrival of Ms. Rosie – my Gammill Long Arm with Statler Stitcher. Once I managed to learn the ins and outs of the Gammill machine, I began quilting for the public. In July 2018, I became a Certified Instructor for Studio 180 Design. I chose Studio 180 because my experience has shown me that their rulers produce accurate and repeatable results. Since becoming a certified instructor my business has expanded to include teaching monthly Tucker University classes and several speaking engagements. In 2020, I moved Cottage Grove Quilt Company (CGQC) into a retail space. Cottage Grove Quilt Company is not only a local brick and mortar quilt shop but is also an Online quilting store which includes resources and weekly tutorials. Currently, we have a highly active Facebook community with weekly Facebook Live Sales, several Block of the Month programs and online classes! So, you will want to keep up with what is going on!
