Dorie Hruska

Dorie Hruska is a 4th generation quilter, author, pattern designer, APQS dealer and Professional Longarm quilter since 2002, with a background in Business & Accounting. Dorie’s work has been featured in several books & publications and she has won numerous awards for her machine quilting at the local and national levels. Although she uses a variety of quilting designs and styles, Dorie is best known for her ability to find a continuous quilting path on any quilt, a technique she teaches in her book, Making Connections, A Free-Motion Quilting Workbook. She has also designed a set of grid stencils and several other grid based design books. Sharing her passion of quilting and encouraging others to quilt with confidence is what she loves most about teaching.

Crosshatching comes in many forms. From straight, curved, wavy to modern. So where do you start? Join Dorie as she shows you some creative ways to quilt out Crosshatching designs with ease. Students will quilt out these designs, using stencils and rulers, on a border style sampler. You will leave the class with the confidence needed to try crosshatching on your next quilt project.
Supply list:

* Curved rulers
* Straight line rulers
*Scissors or thread snips
*Fine tip, dry erase marker

Any brand of rulers will work. If you need a recommendation, my favorite rulers come from Linda Hrcka of The Quilted Pineapple. I will have some of these available for purchase during the class.

spaces. If you are new to longarm quilting or not comfortable in front of the machine, this class is for you.

Finding Your Path – Long Arm

Do you struggle with how to quilt a top with the least amount of starts and stops? In this class, you will learn the strategies Dorie uses to find the continuous path around pieced blocks. Then take it to the next level by connecting these free motion designs across the width of the quilt top with one start and one stop. Based on Dorie’s book, Making Connections. Students are encouraged to bring tops for

Grids Galore – Long Arm

Discover the creative possibilities that can be achieved when you start with a foundation of grid lines. By laying down a grid you now know where to place, position, and scale all the elements of the design. In this hands on class you will learn how to stitch out over 20 intricate grid based designs. Create incredible texture in blocks, borders or as background fills. Rulers, stencils, marking tools will all be used and discussed. Come away with renewed confidence in your abilities to quilt a masterpiece.

In this class we will explore all things Floral. Flowers, Stems and Leaves…with cherries, swirls, ribbons, starburst, butterflies, bees and dragonflies ”Sprinkled” all around. Freehand overall designs that are simple, yet when combined, appear to be very complex. Come join Dorie as she breaks down these designs and teaches you how to stitch them out continuously.
