KCRQF 2019 – Guild Quilts – Hand Quilted

These quilts took honors City Regional Quilt Festival 2019 in the Hand Quilted/Applique category.

Large Quilts:

1st Place — “Hazel’s Diary” by Sandy Meyers of Quilters Guild of Greater Kansas City — This quilt also won 2nd place in Viewers Choice.
Quilt Story:  Pattern by Shelly Pagliai — “Hazel’s Diary was the last quilt pattern published by the KC Star.  The applique is needle turn.  Hand quilting was done in a hoop quilting frame.”

2nd Place — “Home Sweet Home” by Roberta Foth, Kansas Capital Quilters Guild
Quilt Story:  Laundry Basket Designs pattern — “This was a BOM at Stitching Traditions.  Since I love hand applique I couldn’t pass this one up.  It uses all Edyta Sitar fabrics.”

3rd Place – “Hearts and Flowers” by Miriam Reed, Quilters Guild of Greater Kansas City
Quilt Story:  Pattern is by Kathy Delaney – “Enjoying applique – it was fun to learn some new techniques I had never done before.”

Small Quilts:

1st Place – “Life Began in a Garden” by Lois Bozarth, Blue Valley Quilters Guild
Quilt Story: Pattern by Farmhouse Threads and Friends – “This was a BOM on Facebook by several designers who each posted a free pattern each month.  I used wool and cotton from my stash to construct the blocks – hand appliqued each block and some included embroidery embellishments.  I enjoyed making this quilt – one of my favorites.”

2nd Place – “Calico Garden” by Jessie VandenBerg, Olathe Quilters Guild
Quilt Story:  Pattern by Hoopla, from Shelburne Museum Series — “I started this quilt at least 20 years ago.  It was a UFO until last year.”

3rd Place — “Oriental Cabins” by Sandra David, Quilters Guild of Greater Kansas City
Quilt Story: Pattern by Emiko Yoshida, Japan — “This quilt is a paper pieced log cabin with oriental undertones.  I love the movement of the patterns made by the log cabin placement.”

Enjoy these – more later!

Guild Opportunity Quilts

One of the great things about attending the Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival is seeing all the opportunity quilts offered by our participating guilds.  You’ll have a chance to purchase a ticket (or more) from each guild to enter in their drawings.

Here are three you will see there:

Olathe Quilters Guild Opportunity Quilt  — features all KC Star newspaper blocks from the 1920’s – 1940’s that were redrawn.  The pattern is a guild original.

Starlight Quilters Guild Opportunity Quilt — Paper pieced in all batiks by the small group known as the Rowdy Rounders, and quilted by Peggy Skaith.

Blue Valley Quilters Guild Opportunity Quilt — This quilt is an original design constructed and pieced by Ibby Rollert, Sandi Magliacano and Lynn Droege.  It was quilted by Tia Curtis.  The quilt was entered in the 2017 Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival Showcase
Challenge using only the colors of the Festival.

Watch for these and other stunning quilts when you attend KCRQF 2019!
