KCRQF 2019 — Classes with Husqvarna Viking sewing machines!

Harper’s Fabric & Quilt Co. is supporting Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival 2019 in several ways — as a Silver Sponsor, vendor, donation of a prize for volunteers, and  furnishing sewing machines for two classrooms!  Harper’s is a full-line quilt shop and dealer for Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff.

Students will enjoy trying new machines in classes, as well speaking to experts in the Harper’s booth in the Exhibit Hall.  They will help you find the perfect machine!

Workshops available with Micky Depre, MD Quilts —

Mickey Depre

Well known for her designs using English Paper Piecing, Mickey is offering a trunk show and  classes in this technique, as well as a machine piecing class called “Beach Garden”.   We had the privilege of meeting Mickey, enjoying her humorous and inspiring presentation and seeing her quilts in person.  For that reason, we wanted to share her with those attending Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival.   See all her offerings for Festival Here.

If you’ve never tried hand piecing, it is a wonderfully portable and relaxing technique — and a great way to join the “Slow Stitching Movement”.  Here’s what Mickey says about her “Ease Into Hand Piecing” on Friday morning, June 14 — “I believe this is the perfect block to learn hand piecing. It breaks down into 4 simple units that eases students into learning my roundabout technique which results in sharp points and tight fabric intersections.”

Join Mickey in discovering the magic of English Paper Piecing Hexagons (hexies!) by hand. Yes by hand!  EPP is the perfect go-anywhere project.  This workshop will be on Thursday from 12 noon to 3:00 pm.

Want to combine hand and machine techniques in making hexagons?  “Pieced Hexies” workshop on Friday, June 14, from 12 noon to 3:00 pm could be just the class you’re looking for!

When we saw Mickey’s “Beach Garden” quilt, we loved everything about it!  Here’s what Mickey says about it —

“ONE BLOCK! The entire quilt is just one 18” block! Sashing built in! In my quilt there are two block colorways, very slight changes, but it does make the depth of the quilt. But don’t let my color palette dictate your garden. I can see this pattern done all scrappy with each block being it’s own miniature quilt.”

“Beach Garden” all day workshop is on Saturday, June 15, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

No matter which class you choose — spending time with Mickey will be inspiring and entertaining.   And don’t forget to catch her trunk show “Let’s Get Hexed!” on Thursday, June 13, from 8:00 to 9:30 am to start your Festival adventure!

Mickey Depre — KCRQF 2019 Instructor!

I had the pleasure of attending Mickey Depre’s trunk show at my local guild, and immediately wanted her to come to KCRQF 2019!  She is funny, talented, and passionate about sharing her many interests in the quilt world.

Mickey describes herself as an art quilter and a traditional quilter.  At Festival, she will be teaching classes for hand piecing, machine piecing, and her favorite — English Paper Piecing.

Among the titles of published books are Pieced Hexies, Ring Around the Hexies and Half Scrap Quilts.  You can find out more about her on her website and enjoy following her on Facebook.
