At a young age, my mother taught me how to sew, crochet, and embroidery. I would use these techniques for different processes throughout the year but didn’t dive back in full time until our three boys graduated in 2015-2017. I then started quilting again with Wyandotte County Christian Church Piecemakers Quilting group.
I’ve never been one to enjoy making the same block repeatedly, and matching corners at first, was beyond me. Applique was my way of making special baby quilts for friends. I then saw some YouTube videos about Collage Quilts, and I was hooked. To take a picture and make it a quilt fascinated me. I found Susan Carlson and was amazed. I was part of Susan’s first beta testers for her online class, then proceeded to take classes through other means with Marilyn Lee, Melinda Bula, Cynthia England’s Picture Piecing and recently with David Taylor for a weeklong session on turned edge collage. I have explored Sandra Mollon’s freezer paper method and Maxine Tarsey – wonder-under and parchment paper. The collage process took me into the realm of thread painting and sketching, which brought with it Inktense Pencils and blocks.
Other techniques recently grabbed my attention, and I’ve added these to my mix - - Different techniques on Pixel quilts, along with fabric weaving triaxial patterns.
