Jacqueline de Jonge

‘It was love at first sight’

In 1978 Jacqueline de Jonge fell in love when she spied a quilting magazine in a bookstore. “I tried to find the fabrics myself. In the end it took me two years before my first quilt was finished.” Over 45 years later Jacqueline has made a huge name for herself creating and designing her own quilts. Her designs and patterns have been a huge success and are sold worldwide. American’s travel all over to attend workshops with Jacqueline de Jonge.

“I have always been creative, but quilting has hooked me.  To be able to work well at something you love is a miracle and a gift from God.

I started my BeColourful pattern line in the Netherlands in 2004.  BeColourful is now a family owned and operated business in the United States since 2007.

My quilts have been displayed worldwide and have won international awards.  They are based on traditional designs but with a contemporary and colorful twist.

In 2004 at the encouragement of my father I entered the Open European Quilt Championship and won the Color Trophy.  Since that year I have lectured and conducted workshops throughout the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe.  Interviews have been published in several magazines, and in 2011 I was profiled and featured on the Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson online Quilt Show.

I think my passion for quilting helps make me an encouraging and personable teacher.  I love to share my enthusiasm for my designs with others and to bring them to a different and higher level where they can find their own artistic skills.”

She started seriously quilting in 2006 and entered her first quilt show in 2008, winning 3 ribbons. She decided to create a series of 26 quilts all featuring the alphabet, a love she has had since childhood. All her quilts have been awarded prizes from various quilt shows throughout the country. Four of them were awarded purchase prizes at the AQS show in Paducah, Kentucky, and now are in the collection of The National Quilt Museum. She just finished the 26th quilt in the series in July 2024!

Showcase Anniversary Quilts

The 2025 Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival celebrates 10 incredible years of inspiring our community of stitchers! Since its founding in 2015 by Lynn Droege and Janette Sheldon, KCRQF has brought together the talent and artistry of quilters from regional guilds, showcasing the evolution of quilting as both a craft and an art form.

As highlighted in The Kansas City Star in 2015, “Today’s quilting isn’t your grandma’s quilting... The shows go far beyond the traditional patchwork and paper-pieced quilts from the early 20th century and before.” This sentiment continues to ring true, as KCRQF shines a light on the creativity and innovation of modern quilting.

Each festival features a “Showcase Challenge,” inviting guild members to create unique quilts that reflect the festival’s theme. For our 10th-anniversary celebration, we are proud to present a special collection of these quilts, honoring the artistry and inspiration that has defined KCRQF over the past decade. Don’t miss this extraordinary showcase of quilting excellence!
