Meet the guild
Friendships were begun among Lawrence quilters in 1976 when they mounted a display of historical quilts in celebration of the U.S. Bicentennial. As a result, KVQG was established in 1977 and is one of the oldest quilt guilds in the area. The guild has around 190 members from Lawrence and the surrounding area, the KC metroplex, Olathe, Topeka, Leavenworth, and Ottawa.
Meetings are at 7:00 p.m. the Monday before the third Tuesday of each month, and at 9:30 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vermont, Lawrence, Kansas.
KVQG provides nap quilts for the Headstart program. Our Warm Kids project provides quilts for children whose mothers are in a local drug treatment center, the domestic violence shelter, and the local hospital pediatrics ward. Members are also involved in making quilts at the homeless shelter. Our mini-quilt auction at the annual quilt show provides funds for Habitat for Humanity, Lawrence Humane Society, Social Service League, CASA, Douglas County AIDS Project, the Sexual Trauma & Abuse Care Center, and the Spencer Museum of Art.
KVQG is well known for a fantastic lineup of programs each year, most by nationally known presenters. Among our own membership are many nationally recognized quilters, published quilters, and a member of the Quilter’s Hall of Fame. The quilt show, held in even-numbered years, features over 100 quilts, presentations by a featured quilter, a mini-quilt auction, boutique sales, and a good selection of vendors.
